SEO Self experiment, Week 5+6

there are ups and downs, good and bad weeks in seo. In the middle of my searchresult-recession, I posted a serious story last week, one that I would also read and that does contain a few links and information it took me some time to research. Actually I did not mean anything - I just posted it once on facebook and once on twitter.
This did not only lead to 400 views within two days, it also brought 11 retweets and 120 additional results in Google, most of them linking to the article (of course, a lot of them are duplicates or duplicated feeds that will disappear again soon).
That looks pretty efficient to me. Compared to creating catalog-entries, it helps achieve way faster way more people. Creating good content is actually more work - but it is more fun, too. The downside: you can not delegate it that easily, and you can not buy it...

Other effects: Submitting sitemaps did not help a lot with the number of results (the page is quite well indexed by now), but it helped to push some changes in pagetitles and metatags faster. Most pages now display the current pagetitles (changed only two weeks ago).

With spreading links and recommendations the share of search engines in traffic sources is decreasing dramatically - it used to be close to 40 percent and is now less than 20 percent.

So after all, what are the most efficient ways to create results and result awareness? You have to care for the basics, that means create good descriptions, keywords, pagetitles and meaningful content, bit after all technichal cookbook-seo is quite short sighted. It helps, but you have to do it again and again and again and it eats your time. Focusing on contents, writing qualified comments on other pages, making friends in networks does also help you create search results and backlinks – and it helps you care about your content, it makes your site better.

It sounds so simple and like not even two cents worth. But you have to sell it to those people whom you sold the power, reach and impact of online media just a few days ago...
